Charitable Journeys: Stacy Summitt
Stacy’s journey into philanthropy reflects her deep commitment to community and a desire to instill those values in her family. A pivotal moment in her life came when she was in sixth grade and experienced an apartment fire that changed everything. In the wake of that traumatic event, organizations like her church, the Red Cross, and the Salvation Army swooped in that very night, providing food, clothes, and shelter for her, her two little brothers, and their single mother. The support they received during such a challenging time left a lasting impression on Stacy, shaping her understanding of community and the importance of helping others.
This early experience fueled her philanthropic spirit, which was further nurtured by her grandmother’s small but meaningful gestures, like giving her money to donate at church. As a girl in Bluebirds, Stacy embraced the values of service and connection, earning badges that symbolized her commitment to helping others.
When she became a mother, Stacy was determined to pass on this legacy. Enrolling her sons in Cub Scouts provided opportunities for them to volunteer together, teaching empathy and responsibility while creating cherished family memories.
A cause particularly close to Stacy’s heart is St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. Drawn to their mission of supporting families during life’s most challenging moments, she often reflects, “I can’t imagine what those parents go through,” reinforcing her commitment to helping families navigate the emotional and financial burdens of illness. In addition, Stacy volunteers with A Small Hand Foundation, distributing essential supplies like diapers and wipes to families in need. Her hands-on involvement mirrors her belief in the power of community support, much like the support she received years ago.
As Controller at United Charitable, Stacy finds fulfillment in witnessing the tangible impacts of her efforts. “Knowing that my involvement helps these programs is incredibly rewarding,” she reflects, often moved by the impact created by United Charitable and our clients.
Stacy’s charitable journey is a powerful example of how individual actions can inspire a family tradition of giving. By blending her experiences from Bluebirds and her sons’ activities in Cub Scouts, she has cultivated a home environment that values service and compassion. Through her professional work, she has made a lasting impact on charitable programs both nationally and internationally. As she continues to seek new ways to contribute, Stacy reminds us that philanthropy is both a personal journey and a collective endeavor, rooted in the connections we build along the way.
