Charitable Journeys: Darnerien McCants and The Finding Me Foundation

Apr 19, 2024

Darnerien McCants has consistently exhibited his passion, vision, dedication, and diligence in pursuing his goals. His successful athletic career, compassionate coaching endeavors, and commitment to philanthropy have earned him respect and admiration from his community.

During his time as a star athlete at Delaware State University, Darnerien McCants set records and earned recognition as a D1-AA All-American. His achievements led to being drafted by the Washington Redskins in the 5th round. Throughout his NFL career, McCants was recognized for his philanthropic efforts, including being named Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year and Washingtonian of the Year by Washingtonian Magazine. Notably, during his tenure with the Philadelphia Eagles, he organized a coat drive for the Salvation Army, collecting over 3,000 coats for Hurricane Katrina victims. Inspired by his desire to make a difference for those in need, McCants established the Finding Me Foundation.

The Finding Me Foundation, established in 2018 by Darnerien McCants as a fiscally sponsored program of United Charitable, is dedicated to supporting disadvantaged youth in their journey to combat juvenile delinquency. Their approach involves introducing an engaging and enjoyable reading program. However, due to the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, the foundation had to adapt its plans. Instead of launching an after-school reading program at Running Brook Elementary School in Howard County, Maryland, they shifted their focus to creating an Online Story Time program.

Recently, Darnerien McCants joined United Charitable CEO Julia Healey on the Inspired Changemakers Podcast to discuss his philanthropy and share insights into his charitable journey. Listen to the full episode here!
