Charitable Journeys: The Klein Family Foundation

In the realm of giving, Kathy Connolly and Vickie Clawson hold onto a powerful belief instilled by their parents, Joanne and Victor Klein: “Do what you can, when you can, with what you have.” Today, as primary advisers for The Klein Family Foundation, a donor advised fund of United Charitable, Kathy and Vickie embody the spirit of philanthropy, and their story serves as a testament to the incredible impact of giving.

The heart of The Klein Family Foundation lies in its commitment to supporting local grassroots nonprofit organizations. Kathy and Vickie recognize the value of institutions like Northwestern Regional Library, Stardust Animal Sanctuary, Alleghany Law Enforcement Center, Alleghany Cares, Shining Hope Farms, and others, which play vital roles in their community.

Shining Hope Farms holds a special place in their hearts—a connection that happened by chance. Kathy and Vickie were introduced to this remarkable organization through Kathy’s daughter-in-law, who volunteered there. They saw firsthand how therapeutic services in a farm environment can bring about transformative change. Shining Hope Farms, established in 2002, arose from a genuine need in the community to support individuals and groups facing disabilities such as cerebral palsy, autism, Down syndrome, and post-traumatic stress disorder.

As their connection to Shining Hopes Farm grew, and they witnessed the impact the organization had on their community,  The Klein Family Foundation was moved to support the organization further. In recent years they have sponsored the annual care of five horses used in equine therapy at Shining Hope Farms, making the organization’s programs even more impactful.

For Kathy and Vickie, continuing their parents’ tradition of giving has been deeply fulfilling. By leveraging their donor advised fund through United Charitable, they have made a lasting impact in their community while supporting remarkable nonprofits like Shining Hope Farms.
