In the world of philanthropy, the impact of a single individual can resonate through generations, creating a ripple effect of positive change. Such is the case with Alice Ordway, affectionately known as Mimi, whose legacy of giving continues to inspire through the Ordway Family Foundation.

Alice Ordway was not just a woman of her time; she was a trailblazer. A nurse, a mother, and a beloved grandmother, she embodied strength, independence, and determination. Her grandson, Keith Freeman, fondly remembers her as a woman who never lived above her means, yet always found ways to give back to her community.

Driven by her passion for helping others, Alice established a charitable remainder annuity trust (CRAT) and designated a Donor Advised Fund (DAF) as the beneficiary. Through this foresight, she ensured that her charitable intentions would endure beyond her lifetime, leaving a lasting impact for generations to come.

Today, the Ordway Family Foundation, hosted by United Charitable, stands as a testament to Alice’s dedication to service. Each year, her sister and grandchildren gather to carry on her tradition of giving. Together, they select causes close to their hearts, reflecting the values Alice held dear.

From supporting organizations like the Make-A-Wish Foundation to contributing to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, the Ordway Family Foundation’s philanthropy knows no bounds. Guided by Mimi’s example, they continue to make a difference in the lives of those in need, honoring her memory with each grant they distribute.

As her grandson Keith Freeman puts it, “[Running her DAF] is a way to honor her over the course of many years, a way to honor her legacy.” Through their ongoing commitment to philanthropy, the Ordway family ensures that Alice’s spirit of generosity lives on, inspiring others to follow in her footsteps and make the world a better place.
