Impact Around the Globe: International Giving Using United Charitable’s Philanthropic Solutions
One benefit of working with United Charitable is the ability to support our clients’ charitable giving and charitable doing domestically and internationally. Over the last decade, seeing our clients react to needs internationally has been eye-opening for me.
United Charitable administers two charitable vehicles; Donor Advised Funds and Fiscally Sponsored Programs. Each vehicle is powerful in its own way.
A Donor Advised Fund lets you put away charitable dollars now, then give them to different charities, religious organizations and educational institutions over time. One of our clients spent years building up his charitable account. He put away $5,000 a year for seven years and worked with his local financial advisor to invest the funds inside the charitable account. When Ukraine needed help, he was able to make a significant contribution to an NGO in Ukraine. A nongovernmental organization (NGO) is a group that functions independently of any government and is established on community, national, and international levels to serve a social or political goal, such as a humanitarian cause or protection of the environment. This is an example of a client springing into action.
A Fiscally Sponsored Program allows United Charitable to sponsor your project. The project can accept tax-deductible donations and grants. United Charitable accepts responsibility for the use of those funds and ensures their application toward charitable purposes, along with any additional donor restrictions. Watchlist is one of the most powerful international projects we support.
Watchlist on Children and Armed Conflict strives to end violations against children in armed conflicts and to guarantee their rights. As a global network, Watchlist builds partnerships among local, national, and international nongovernmental organizations, enhancing mutual capacities and strengths. Working together, we collect and disseminate information on violations against children in conflicts in order to influence key decision-makers to create and implement programs and policies that effectively protect children. When you have a moment, click on their annual report. The work they are doing to defend the rights of children is overwhelming.
One of our Corporate Charitable Clients, Brush Arbor Homes, started Build One Build One, a Donor-Advised Fund with United Charitable. For every home purchased, Brush Arbor contributes to building a home in a developing country. Buy One Build One partners with organizations and programs worldwide to provide shelter, nurture, and services for families, children, and widows.
When our clients see a need, they can act using their Donor Advised Fund or Fiscally Sponsored Program. Empowering people to follow their passion is UC’s favorite job. Below is a map of all the different places United Charitable has supported.
